Pics or it didn't happen: the first bottles in the vault
Our first bottles on camera, and what custody actually means when you hold one.
In crypto the saying is don't trust, verify. In whiskey it's closer to pics or it didn't happen. So here are the pics. Moving ones, even.
Why film a bottle doing nothing
Every lot on BlokVault is a real bottle in a real cellar, and what you hold is a claim on that bottle. A claim is only as good as the thing behind it, and "trust us, it's in there" is a strange pitch from a company whose whole point is proof.
So before anything else, we wanted you to see them. Labels, seals, glass, fill level. Not a render, not a stock photo of something that looks roughly like ours. Ours.
What's in there so far
A pair of Van Winkles, a discontinued Johnnie Walker Green Label, and a couple of single barrels that deserve more fame than they currently have. Every one of them is listed in the vault.
Custody, in plain English
- It's stored. Each bottle lives in a climate-controlled cellar, insured by Lloyd's, until you ask for it.
- It's recorded. Each bottle has its own lot number and its own token on Ethereum, so who holds it is public record, not a spreadsheet on our laptop.
- It's yours to collect. Whenever you want the real thing, burn the token and we ship the bottle to your door. Then it's yours to open, display, or argue about.
Rules we followed while filming
- No bottles were opened.
- No bottles were harmed.
- Several bottles were looked at longingly. We're only human.
